It all started when…I was was impressed with Simon’s improvisational skills. It was a gig in North Beach at The Saloon with guitar savant Dave Workman, but Simon held his own. We did the gig cold, no rehearsal. It was wonderful.

Simon Govan Smith is an Australian guitarist, songwriter, and music industry professional in the style of John Scofield whose versatile playing and deep musical sensibilities have made him a valued member of The Lucky Losers band. Born and raised in Australia, Simon brings a rich blend of understated rock, blues, roots, and soul influences to the band’s dynamic sound, contributing both onstage and in the studio with driving riffs, expressive solos, and tasteful ensemble playing.

As a very young man in the 1980’s, Simon worked on the business side of the music industry in Australia, gaining experience in artist development and label operations with a major record company. His industry insight informs his creative work, giving him a unique perspective as both a musician and advocate for artists’ careers.

He came to the Bay Area in 1990’s.

Since joining The Lucky Losers, Simon has been a key contributor to the band’s live energy and evolving repertoire, helping shape their sound with his melodic guitar lines, deep groove feel, and intuitive interplay with the rhythm section. Whether laying down fiery leads or supporting soulful vocals with rich chordal textures, he brings both finesse and fire to every performance.. he also is a guitarist with the Highwater Blues (Bay Area R&B/blues/rock band), Jon Otis & BluBeatz, and The Ol’man Brothers Band.
