Joe Kyle is a highly respected bassist whose deep groove, musical intelligence, and stylistic versatility make him a longtime fixture on the San Francisco Bay Area roots and Americana scene. Kyle is equally at home on electric and upright bass, bringing feel, restraint, and rhythmic authority to every musical setting.

In addition to his work with The Lucky Losers, Kyle is widely known for his longtime role with The Waybacks, where he has served as a touring and recording bassist for many years, contributing to the band’s adventurous blend of Americana, folk-rock, and improvisational roots music. His broad résumé also includes work with acclaimed Bay Area and national acts such as HowellDevine, Americano Social Club, The Cottontails, FRIENDO, New Squatoolas, and the Colm O’Riain Band.

Kyle’s playing is defined by strong time, melodic sensibility, and an instinctive ability to support both songs and singers. Whether anchoring a groove-driven blues band, navigating roots-rock arrangements, or providing subtle texture on upright bass, he brings depth, taste, and a lifetime of experience to the music.
